My favourite sculptor, Barbara Hepworth said,
’I, the sculptor, am the landscape. I am the form and the hollow, the thrust and the contour.’
I strongly believe that good art is made up of two main elements - a strong message/concept and a strong aesthetic.
The concept of my work is the Sacred Feminine in total harmony with herself. What I mean by the sacred feminine is a feminine energy most strongly anchored in women´s bodies as well as our lived experiences. It is embodied wisdom; compassion and nuturing; creativity and flow; passion and sensuality; and transformation and power. I have many sculptures that are abstract representations of the female body that attempt to give the female viewer in particular, a sense of this feminine energy, to draw inspiration and meaning from the matriarchal cultures of the past (such as in Europe and the Middle East ), connect to Mother Earth and reclaim their bodies.
The forms I envision are curvilinear, sensual, organic and flowing. They are also strong forms. Bold and strong - like the material I carve them from. And I want them to be beautiful. I want them to be so beautiful you want to stroke them, to admire them, to adore them!
